Formed in 2000, the Transformed Plastix (TPX) owners identified a significant lack of vacuum forming capacity in Australia. What capacity there was targeted price over quality.
Wanting to be recognised for quality products, the owners opted for quality, innovation and time to market, a formula that has stood the test of time.
The acquisition of Twin Sheet vacuum forming equipment proved a milestone in the company’s development. TPX quickly mastered the large format twin sheet vacuum forming process; a manufacturing technique which, to this day, no other vacuum forming company in Australia can offer.
The company grew significantly through to 2006. Several large-scale projects featured during this time, including the HEC engine dunnage project, a joint venture between Transformed Plastix, Holden, Chep, and Plexicor.
The years 2009 and 2010 were another step forward where significant long-term contracts were secured with major clients such as BP Australia, Iveco Trucks, and Kenworth Trucks.
A changing manufacturing landscape led by declining local manufacturing in the automotive industry and its reliance on the support industry for componentry, dunnage, and reusable packaging led the TPX team to seek a new, more diverse customer base.
TPX were committed to finding new and more diverse market segments, employing sales engineers to develop new client and product-based initiatives.
These successful new programs required additional manufacturing processes and equipment. TPX added new several new lines; Twin and single-sheet portable toilet panel manufacturing, evaporative air-conditioning covers and trays, caravan parts, trailer lids, scientific and medical products.
In 2017 external shareholders with significant direct and related industry experience were introduced as a two-stage acquisition of Transformed Plastix; 45% was purchased from the Gillon Group.
In May 2018, 100% of Transformed Plastix was purchased by the new shareholders bringing in a range of new skills, a new strategy and a focused 5-year business plan. The strategy resolved around new market segments and opportunities, diversifying contract manufacturing into several new industrial sectors.
The changing strategy developed by TPX led to several new contracts being entered into while continuing with existing long-term contracts, diversifying the manufacturing portfolio.
To keep ahead of growth, our production process requires constant refining and development.
Significant investment is currently underway, refurbishing and modernising equipment and control systems, updating CAD-CAM design, adding 3D printing while increasing staff numbers by 57% to ensure our customers receive quality products on-time.
While COVID-19 affected many businesses and industries in 2020, TPX has kept operating as an essential industry supplier, while taking the time to develop its manufacturing systems and to redevelop its Website, while introducing a new range of its own proprietary products to support its contract manufacturing.
